Anusuiya Goswami took the oath as the 8th Mayor of Kota on Friday and assumed charge. On Friday in Kota, excitement filled the air for the Anant Chaturdashi festival. Meanwhile, the BJP celebrated its decisive victory in the mayoral elections. BJP’s Anusuiya Goswami registered a landslide victory for the mayoral post by defeating Congress’s Sunita Kumari Suman by 30 votes. Her victory marks a major turning point in the local politics of Kota. Furthermore, she secured a commanding win in the high-stakes Kota Municipal Corporation mayoral contest.
The voting process for the mayor began at 10 a.m. at the Municipal Corporation office amidst tight security. The voting continued for approximately two and a half hours. Out of the 100 municipal councilors, Anusuiya Goswami of the BJP received 65 votes, while Suman of the Congress received 35. Congress’s fears were realized when some councillors crossed party lines to vote for the BJP. 6 Congress councillors voted in favour of the BJP.
The election officer declared Anusuiya Goswami the winner by 30 votes. With this, the BJP formed the board in the corporation. Goswami cast the first vote and remained in the voting booth the entire time. Meanwhile, Suman of the Congress party came with the councilors, cast her vote, and left.

First, Anusuiya Goswami declared an open-door policy for all city residents. She stated that ordinary citizens will never need a special pass or recommendation slip to meet their Kota Mayor. Instead, any citizen can visit her office directly to present their grievances. Furthermore, she pledged prompt action on city sanitation, urban beautification, and public health. She affirmed that the municipal team will work actively on core civic amenities across all wards.
Who Is Anusuiya Goswami?
Anusuiya Goswami represents dedicated grassroots leadership in Kota. Her rise to the top municipal chair reflects decades of ground-level public engagement. She was born on November 19, 1975, in Radi village, Keshoraipatan area, to Babulal Goswami. Her father is a farmer, and her mother is a homemaker.
She is a 51-year-old leader who has spent years working closely with local communities in Kota. Party workers and residents affectionately call her “Jiji Bai” for her approachable nature. In the 2026 municipal elections, she contested from Ward 98 as the BJP candidate. She defeated Congress nominee Ayush Pareta by a solid margin of 393 votes, securing 1,551 votes against his 1,158 votes. This strong ward victory set the foundation for her mayoral nomination.
Educational Qualifications of Anusuiya Goswami
Anusuiya Goswami has completed her formal education up to the secondary school level (10th standard). While her formal schooling is modest, she possesses extensive administrative and organizational wisdom gained through decades of public work. Moreover, her election affidavit reflects family assets valued at around one crore rupees. Her supporters emphasize that her practical problem-solving skills and grassroots connection outweigh formal academic degrees.

Anusuiya Goswami comes from a family with established ties to local and regional governance.
She leads a close-knit household with four children, including two sons and two daughters. Anusuiya’s mother-in-law, Chandrakanta Goswami, has served as a councilor in the Kaithun Municipality twice. In addition, her sister-in-law, Rekha Goswami, previously served as a municipal councillor in Kota. Meanwhile, her father-in-law was a teacher as well as an “akhada” ( traditional wrestling arena) operator. Her husband is involved in the property and finance business. At the regional level, her extended family is connected to former Bundi MLA Ashok Dogra. These longstanding local links give her family a respected standing throughout the Hadoti region.
Political Career of Goswami
Anusuiya Goswami built her political career from the ground up through persistent party service. She has held several crucial responsibilities over the years. She was active during the Ayodhya Ram Mandir movement and, in connection with it, had to spend time in a Delhi jail in 1990.
Given her active work style, she was appointed Director of the Women’s Citizen Cooperative Bank in 2007. Earlier in her career, in 2016, she took charge as the District President of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Kota. In that role, she mobilized women workers and led multiple community outreach drives. Subsequently, her dedicated work earned her a promotion to the state level in 2024. She served as a State Secretary (Pradesh Mantri) for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Rajasthan.
