Bharat Taxi is officially making its grand entry into the Pink City. Bharat Taxi, the country’s first cooperative cab service modelled after the Central Government’s cooperative framework, will have its soft launch in Jaipur this June. However, this service will be formally launched in July. It is being seen as a strong and affordable alternative to private cab companies.
This innovative transport network is expanding from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow, offering Rajasthan commuters a safe, affordable, and fresh way to travel around the city. Seven thousand drivers have already registered in the first phase. Bharat Taxi’s drivers are designated “sarathi.”
Unlike private cab companies, Bharat Taxi will initially operate on a zero commission basis. There are currently no subscription charges for drivers, though a minimal fee may be levied in the future to streamline operations. The most comforting aspect for consumers is that there will be no fare increases or additional charges due to weather or busy times. However, fare rates have not yet been finalised. The good thing for consumers is that no cancellation charges will be levied on cancelling the ride.
Women can also become Sarathi
Female drivers are also given equal opportunity to participate in this service. If female cab drivers wish to join Bharat Taxi, they can also register. For security reasons, all driver data is fully verified. The app features GPS tracking, live location sharing, and secure trip records. An SOS emergency button is also planned for the app.

How a Driver Can Register for Bharat Taxi
The registration process for the Bharat Taxi service is quite straightforward and transparent. Drivers will have to download the app from the Google Play Store and upload their driving license, vehicle RC and passport-size photo.
- Step 1: Drivers need to download the official driver application or visit the local registration desk in Jaipur.
- Step 2: They must submit valid personal documents, including their commercial driving license and Aadhar card.
- Step 3: The vehicle documents, like registration papers, fitness certificates, and insurance, must be uploaded.
- Step 4: Once the verification is complete via official portals, the driver attends a short training program to activate their account.
Who is the Owner of Bharat Taxi?
Unlike standard corporate apps, the real owner of Bharat Taxi is Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited. It operates under a unique cooperative model supported directly by the Ministry of Cooperation and eight top national cooperatives, including Amul, IFFCO, and NAFED. In this “Amul-style” setup, the drivers themselves are the primary owners and stakeholders. Moreover, by purchasing a small share for just ₹500, any driver can become a co-owner and participate directly in the equal distribution of profits.
After the successful launch of Bharat Atta and Bharat Rice, this brand is set to succeed in taxi services.
How travellers can use this service
Travellers can download the app from the Play Store and log in using their mobile number. After that, they can easily book a cab, bike, or auto by entering their location. City head Abhishek Charan says that Bharat Taxi can also be booked to go from Jaipur to any other city in the state. Whereas booking will be possible only for those cities outside the state where this service is currently operating.
Comparing Bharat Taxi with Ola and Uber
| Feature | Bharat Taxi | Ola & Uber |
| Business Model | Driver-owned Cooperative | Investor-owned Corporate |
| Profit Distribution | 80% profit goes directly to drivers | Heavy commissions kept by the company |
| Surge Pricing | Highly limited and transparent | High surge during peak hours or rain |
| Account Protection | No suspension without a fair hearing | Arbitrary blockages based on app algorithms |
| Hidden Charges | Zero hidden fees for drivers | Frequent hidden platform and service fees |
Will Bharat Taxi Succeed?
Yes, Bharat Taxi has an excellent chance of succeeding in Jaipur because it solves the core frustrations of the gig economy. Traditional ride-hailing networks often struggle with driver dissatisfaction, which leads to high cancellation rates for passengers. Because this cooperative model guarantees higher earnings, better dignity, and a minimum safety net for drivers, they are highly motivated to provide superior service. Basically, happy drivers mean fewer ride cancellations, reasonable fares, and safer travel for the residents of Jaipur.
