BJP has won the election field in Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections even before the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. In the state, 10 BJP candidates including Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein won their respective seats unopposed. Election officials gave this information on Saturday.

Election officials in Itanagar said that after the withdrawal of nominations on different seats, 10 BJP candidates won unopposed. Officials said there was no candidate against Chief Minister Khandu in the Mukto assembly constituency. First-time candidate and retired engineer Techi Rotu of the BJP was the only candidate to file a nomination for the Sagli Assembly seat.

Khandu celebrated the unopposed victory of 10 BJP assembly candidates. He celebrated with Honorable Minister Ashok Singhal ji, Deputy Chief Minister Chauna Mein ji and party workers at the BJP office. Moreover, he thanked the people for their love, faith in Modi’s guarantee and dedication towards the state’s development.

Besides Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, eight other candidates have been elected unopposed. These include Hyuliang-ST to Dasanglu Pul, Bomdila to Dongru Seongju, Sagli to Techi Ratu, Zero-Hapoli to Hege Appa, Tali to Jikke Tako, Taliha to Nyato Dukam, Roins to Muchchu Meethi and Itanagar to Techi Kaso.

This process of unopposed elections in Arunachal Pradesh started in 1999. In 2014, 11 Congress MLAs, including outgoing Chief Minister Khandu, were elected unopposed. However, most of the MLAs led by Khandu later left the Congress and joined the Bhartiya Janta Party. Furthermore, they form the government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party. In the last assembly elections in 2019, three BJP candidates were elected unopposed.

Voting for two Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 19.

Assembly elections on remaining seats and voting for two Lok Sabha seats of Arunachal Pradesh – Arunachal West and Arunachal East – will be held simultaneously on April 19.

In the 2019 assembly elections, BJP had won 41 out of 60 seats in Arunachal. Later, seven MLAs from other parties joined the BJP. The counting of votes for the assembly elections will take place on June 2. The results of the two Lok Sabha seats will be declared on June 4.
