BSF jawan Vijay Singh Kuntal, on the strength of his courage, brought laurels to the region by winning gold and bronze medals in the 6th National Para Shooting Championship. The young man whose right hand was snatched away in an accident involving a government vehicle is today bringing glory to the country by becoming a player. Vijay Singh won both gold and bronze medals with his left hand at the 6th National Para Shooting Championship in 2025. Vijay Singh Kuntal serves as a constable in the 165th Battalion of the BSF in Jammu and Kashmir. He has brought pride to the village of Gunsara.
BSF jawan Vijay Singh Kuntal is a resident of Gunsara village in Bharatpur district. He has brought laurels to Khutel Patti at the national level. More than 500 para athletes from across the country participated in the 6th National Para Shooting Championship held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi. This national competition took place at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi from December 5 to 10, 2025. Vijay Singh excelled in tough competition, winning gold in the 10m rifle prone position and bronze in the air rifle standing category.
BSF Jawan Previously Won Medals
Six years after his accident, Vijay Singh began competing in para shooting competitions in 2020-21. His performance quickly became a national sensation. In recent years, he has earned 23 medals across zonal, national, and international competitions. Vijay Singh has also won a bronze medal in the first National Para Shooting Championship held in 2021. At the 2nd National Para Shooting Championship held in Delhi in 2022, he won a silver medal in the 50m rifle prone position and two bronze medals in the 10m air rifle, both standing and prone positions. This year’s National Championship gave him a new identity.

Vijay lost one hand in an accident
Vijay Singh said his life changed suddenly in 2014. At the time, he was posted to the 165th Battalion of the BSF in Mathura. While returning from election duty, his team’s official vehicle collided with a truck and overturned. Four soldiers, including Vijay, were seriously injured in the accident. Vijay suffered multiple fractures to his right hand, and despite prolonged treatment, his hand never recovered.
Where circumstances forced one to accept defeat, Vijay started winning as per his name. He decided he wouldn’t let life be incomplete. He began learning to shoot left-handed, a decision that would rewrite his career.
