The districts in Rajasthan were finally decided in the Bhajanlal government’s cabinet meeting. The Rajasthan government eliminated nine districts and established three new divisions introduced by the Gehlot administration. Thus, Rajasthan now has a total of 41 districts and 7 divisions.

After the first anniversary of Rising Rajasthan and the government, the Bhajanlal government held a cabinet and council of ministers meeting on Saturday at CMO. The Bhajanlal government made many big decisions in this meeting. After the cabinet meeting, Minister Sumit Godara and Minister Jogaram Patel held a press conference and informed the public about the decisions.

Districts in Rajasthan abolished

The Bhajan Lal government has cancelled the nine new districts created during Gehlot rule: Dudu, Kekri, Jodhpur Rural, Shahpura, Neemkathana, Anupgarh, Gangapur City, Jaipur Rural, and Sanchore.

Deeg, Balotra, Khairthal-Tijara, Beawar, Kotputli-Behror, Didwana-Kuchaman, Phalodi, and Sanlubar will remain districts.

Reasons for abolishing the districts in Rajasthan

Minister Jogaram Patel stated that the newly created districts and divisions before the elections were impractical, leading to the decision to abolish them. Moreover, the oversight of financial resources and population factors resulted in many districts lacking 6-7 tehsils.

The minister stated that the need for numerous districts would have been assessed. Moreover, no posts or office buildings were established, and only 18 departments made arrangements for creating posts. Furthermore, he stated that the committee review concluded these districts are imposing an unnecessary burden on Rajasthan and lack utility.

Gehlot government had created 17 new districts

The previous Gehlot government created 17 new districts in Rajasthan before the election. These districts were Balotra, Didwana, Phalodi, Anupgarh, Jodhpur Rural, Salumbhar, Sanchore, Shahpura, Neemkathana, Gangapur City, Khairthal-Tijara, Deeg, Kotputli-Bahrod, Beawar, Kekri, Jaipur Rural and Dudu. Apart from this, three new divisions namely Sikar, Pali and Banswara were also created.

Now out of these 17 districts, nine are been abolished. After the decision of the Bhajan Lal government, now out of 17 new districts, only 8 will remain as they are.

Gehlot got upset due to his created districts were dissolved.

Opposition party Congress leaders are on the offensive after the Bhajan Lal government decided to cancel 9 districts and 3 divisions in Rajasthan.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the BJP government. He describes it as a short-sighted decision driven by political vengeance. He said that this decision is not only against the public interest but also undermines the goal of administrative reform.

Furthermore, he said that on March 21, 2022, senior administrative officer Ramlubhaya chaired a committee that compiled its report after reviewing hundreds of submissions. Moreover, new districts in Rajasthan were formed based on these recommendations.
