Nitish Kumar, the Bihar CM, today (March 30) officially resigned from his membership of the Legislative Council. He took this step today, following the constitutional requirement after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. Significantly, the Chief Minister did not submit his resignation in person. Instead, he sent it to the Legislative Council Secretariat through MLC Sanjay Gandhi.
The Chief Minister’s residence (1, Anne Marg) was bustling with activity since Monday morning. Senior JDU leaders Lallan Singh, Sanjay Jha, and Vijay Chaudhary arrived at the CM House by 9 am. After a long consultation, Nitish Kumar prepared his resignation. Earlier, there was a discussion that Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh himself would come to the CM House, but later Nitish Kumar submitted his resignation letter to Minister and Legislative Council member Sanjay Gandhi.
MLC Sanjay Gandhi personally arrived at the Legislative Council with the Chief Minister’s resignation. He handed Nitish Kumar’s resignation to Chairman Avadhesh Narayan Singh. Nitish Kumar’s 20-year tenure in the Bihar Legislative Council came to an end today with the Chairman accepting his resignation. He had been a member of the House continuously since 2006.
After accepting the resignation, Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh said that he had gone to the Chief Minister’s residence to pay a courtesy call on Nitish Kumar. After this, Nitish Kumar sent his resignation to the Legislative Council through Sanjay Gandhi, which was accepted.
