Logistic Ease Across Different States (LEADS) Report 2023 was released by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday. All in all this report has ranked states based on their logistics ecosystem. It is the fifth LEADS report.

What is Logistic Ease Across Different States (LEADS)

Logistic Ease Across Different States (LEADS) in India is a helpful index. Indian government launched LEADS an indigenous data-driven index. Above all, it is to assess the logistics performance of all states and Union Territories (UTs).

LEADS is a valuable tool for driving improvements in the Indian logistics sector. As a result, by focusing on infrastructure, regulation, technology, and skill development, India can achieve a more efficient and competitive logistics system.

The goal of Logistic Ease Across Different States (LEADS) in India

Its goal is to boost operational efficiency and make India a leading global logistics hub. Moreover, the index aims to focus on improving logistics performance in states, which is essential to improve the country’s trade and reduce transaction costs.

The index evaluates states based on five key parameters. These parameters are as follows:-
- Infrastructure (roads, railways, ports, warehouses)
- Services (truck availability, freight rates, warehousing quality)
- Regulatory environment (customs clearance ease, permit timelines)
- Technology adoption (digital freight platforms, real-time tracking)
- Human resources (availability of skilled workforce)
How Logistic Ease Across Different States (LEADS) is measured

Each state is assessed on a 100-point scale based on the above-mentioned parameters. States are then categorized into three tiers:

1 Achievers: Scoring above 80 points.

2 Fast Movers: Scoring between 60 and 80 points.

3 Aspirers: Scoring below 60 points.

The LEADS index is updated annually. Moreover, it allows states to track their progress and identify areas for improvement.

LEADS performance and ranking

Piyush Goyal released the latest LEADS report on the 16th of December 2023 by Piyush Goyal. Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu continue to be categorized as Achievers. Moreover, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand are categorized as Fast Movers. Several other states are also improving and moving towards the “Achiever” category.

According to a report released on Saturday by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry 13 states and union territories have been classified as achievers in the Logistics Index Chart 2023. Moreover, the index indicates the efficiency of logistics services required to promote exports and economic growth.

The fifth LEADS (Logistics Ease in Various States) 2023 report released by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal ranks states based on their logistics ecosystem. Moreover, Piyush Goyal highlighted logistics-related challenges faced by states and others.

Since 2018, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has been conducting a study called “Logistics Ease Across Different States”. Additionally, this study is aimed at identifying and resolving logistics inefficiencies that hinder trade facilitation across supply chains at a sub-national level.

In September 2022, the Prime Minister of India announced the launch of the National Logistics Policy (NLP), which serves as a comprehensive framework for States and Union Territories (UTs) to develop their own logistics policies. Moreover, the NLP aims to streamline and optimize the logistics sector of India by providing guidelines for the development of infrastructure, technology, and regulations. As of now, 19 States and UTs have already notified their logistics policies based on the NLP.

India has jumped 6 places to rank 38 out of 139 countries in the World Bank’s logistics ranking, a source of great pride. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has taken numerous initiatives since 2015 to improve its logistics efficiency.

What Supreme Court say about student suicide?

The Supreme Court said that suicides are happening because of parents while hearing the petition. How can the court pass directions in such circumstances? Mumbai resident Dr Anirudh Narayan had filed a public interest petition in the Supreme Court regarding the suicide of students. Mumbai-based doctor Anirudh Narayan Malpani has filed this petition through lawyer Mohini Priya.

The Court on Monday said tough competition and parental pressure on children preparing for competitive exams is the main reason for the increasing number of suicides across the country.

The Supreme Court held parents responsible

The Supreme Court held the parents of children responsible for the increasing incidents of suicide among students. The Court on Monday (November 20) said that it is not appropriate to blame coaching centres for the increasing suicides among students as the expectations of parents are motivating children to kill themselves.

The court has made this comment mainly regarding the increasing suicides of students in Kota, Rajasthan. It is noteworthy that this year about 24 suicides have been reported in the Kota district of Rajasthan.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna refused to consider a plea seeking a law to regulate private coaching centres and set a standard for them, saying, “The problem is with the parents, not with the coaching institutes”.

Justice SVN Bhatti, who was part of the bench, said that these suicides are not happening because of the coaching institute, but because children are unable to live up to the expectations of their parents.

Parents have expectations from children

The bench said, “Most of us do not want coaching institutes. But look at the conditions of schools. There is tough competition and students have no other option but to go to these coaching institutes. At the same time, parents also have high expectations from their children”.

The Supreme Court’s suggestions to the petitioner

The court suggested the petitioner either approach the Rajasthan High Court in the matter because most of the suicide incidents mentioned in the petition are related to Kota. Supreme Court also suggested giving a representation to the Central Government on how to make a law on this issue. On this, lawyer Priya sought permission to withdraw the petition and indicated that the petitioner would like to present a representation.

About 8.2% of students in the country die by suicide.

Referring to the 2020 data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Priya said that according to this, about 8.2% of students in the country die by suicide. The bench said that they knew the situation, but the court could not pass directions. The bench suggested that the petitioner approach the government with his suggestions. Priya sought permission to withdraw the petition to approach the appropriate forum, which was allowed by the court.

Ghazala Hashmi born in Hyderabad has been elected to the Senate of Virginia for the third consecutive time. She was the first Indian-American and Muslim woman to make it to the Senate of Virginia.

At the same time, Suhas Subramaniam has also been re-elected to the Senate of Virginia. He was elected to the House of Delegates twice in 2019 and 2021.

Subramaniam of Indian origin born in Houston was a technology policy advisor in the White House during the previous Obama administration. Identically, he is the first Hindu to be elected to the Virginia House.

The Trishakti Multidimensional Operation Started.

The Trishakti multidimensional operation was flagged off by Lieutenant General Vipul Singhal Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding, Sudarshan Chakra Corps.

Various senior officers of the defence forces participated in the programme.

It is noteworthy that the said operation involves the participation of all three armies in the spirit of joint prowess.

During this, it was informed that adventure activities are an integral part of military training, as they inculcate leadership spirit and also test the physical and mental strength of the military personnel.

The campaign has representation from the armed forces with 40 members from the Army, Navy and Air Force, including women officers and Agniveer.

The Trishakti Multidimensional Operation will pass through historical sites

The said expedition will travel more than 1700 kilometres in the Thar Desert areas. From Jaisalmer to the northern edge of Kutch and along the Rajasthan border, it will pass through historical places like Barmer, Munabao, Longewala, Tanot, Ramgarh, Kishangarh and Bharewala.

The participants will do motorcycling, 4×4 jeep rally, camel safari, cycling and rafting along the way.

The Trishakti campaign is not only about adventure but will also highlight the Army’s commitment towards nation-building.

Environmental Awareness

The campaign members will promote environmental awareness. They will promote green energy by planting trees in local communities at several locations.

Women Empowerment

During this, the need for women’s empowerment will be highlighted. As well as run various youth participation activities. The Trishakti Multidimensional Operation pay tribute to the martyrs and also interacts with the bravery award winners.

Medical Camps

The expedition team will also organize medical camps in villages en route. During the operation, they will provide a freshwater borewell in a border village. Sudarshan Chakra Corps of the Indian Army will organize a free health camp for the citizens of Ramgarh at Ramgarh Community Health Center on 22 October from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The free medical services will include general medical checkups, dental checkups and eye checkups.
