IPS Nalin Prabhat has been made the Special DG of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The current Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir is retiring on September 30. After that, 1992 batch IPS Nalin Prabhat will assume the charge of Special DG. Moreover, he has been shifted to the AGMUT cadre on interstate deputation. Current DGP of Jammu and Kashmir RR Swain is also a 1991 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre.

IPS Nalin Prabhat has vast experience in handling counter-terrorism operations. He has been the Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). Apart from this, he has taken up the responsibility of Additional Director General of CRPF in Jammu and Kashmir. IPS Nalin Prabhat had led the operation during the terrorist attack on Lal Chowk in Jammu and Kashmir in 2009. During this, he along with his team had killed the terrorists who attacked a hotel in Srinagar.
At present, terrorist attacks have once again increased in Kashmir. In such a situation, to deal with terrorist activities and attacks, the government has handed over the responsibility of DGP to IPS Nalin Prabhat.
