Toll Plaza numbers are on top in Rajasthan state in India

Toll plaza numbers made Rajasthan state on the top among the top 10 states in India. There are exactly 142 toll plazas in Rajasthan. Moreover, Rajasthan is also on top in terms of paying toll tax.

Construction of expressways, eight-lane, six-lane and four-lane highways in the country has made transportation easy and convenient. With the increase in the speed of vehicles on the highway, new toll plazas are also opening. At present 983 toll points are running on the national highways of the country. A maximum of these 142 checkpoints are in Rajasthan. Furthermore, Rajasthan holds the top position in terms of toll tax payments. There are only nine toll plazas in Kerala. What is also interesting and surprising is that out of 983 toll points, 457 have become operational in the last five years. Rajasthan is also ahead in terms of opening a new toll plaza.

Non-stop toll collection is still a long way off

The central government has planned to collect automatic tolls without stopping at toll plazas. But implementing it everywhere is still a long way off.

Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based electronic toll collection (ETC) system is currently undergoing testing on the Bengaluru-Mysore Highway in Karnataka and the Panipat-Hisar route in Haryana as a pilot project.

On the Ajmer-Delhi Highway, two toll plazas (Shahjahanpur and Thikaria) have broken records in terms of earnings. In the last five years, about Rs 3000 crore toll tax was collected from these two checkpoints. After this, there is the Bharthana toll plaza of Gujarat, where Rs 2043.80 crore has been collected.

The Transport Department has extended the date of application. Applications for high-security number plate installation in vehicles can now be made until August 10. From August 11, action will be taken against vehicles without a high-security number plate.

    Easier to monitor

The Transport Department believes that the installation of a high-security number plate will make it easier to develop an intelligent transport system. With this, monitoring through e-challan, pollution, insurance and GPS systems will be done easily.

Furthermore, tracing suspicious vehicles will also become easier. Apart from this, it will also provide the facility to trace locations in real time. A high-security number plate is laser-coated. Moreover, its safe lock cannot be opened. It can be removed only after breaking. In such a situation, if the vehicle is stolen and the thief drives or sells the vehicle with fake license plates, he will be caught.

What is a high-security number plate?

A high-security number plate (HSRP) is a vehicle registration plate that is designed to offer enhanced security features. Thus reducing the risk of car theft and fraud. These plates are often mandated by governments in various countries to ensure better vehicle identification and to streamline the registration process. Here are some key features of high-security number plates:

    1. Reflective Sheeting: HSRPs are made using reflective sheeting that improves visibility in low-light conditions and during the night.
    2. Unique Laser Code: Each plate has a unique laser-engraved code that is difficult to tamper with or replicate, making it easier to trace and identify vehicles.
    3. Hologram: A chromium-based hologram is embedded into the plate to prevent counterfeiting and ensure authenticity.
    4. Hot Stamping: The registration number and letters are hot-stamped into the plate to prevent easy removal or tampering.
    5. Snap Lock: These plates often come with a snap-lock mechanism. Thus making it difficult to remove the plate without breaking it, thereby deterring theft.
    6. Centralized Record: Information about the plate and the vehicle is stored in a centralized database. Which can be accessed by law enforcement agencies for verification and tracking purposes.

The adoption of a high-security number plate can vary by region. Some countries make it mandatory for all vehicles, while others may require it only for new registrations. In Rajasthan, it is been made compulsory to install till the 10th of August 2024.
