Fake news cases are strictly monitored by the administration and police. Moreover, strict action will be taken against the guilty persons. These instructions are given by the Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta and District Election Officer Rohitashv Singh Tomar in a meeting in Baran.
A joint meeting was held of the Media Cell of the Election Department and police officers. It was held on Tuesday at the District Superintendent of Police office. During the meeting, effective measures were discussed to tackle the issue of fake news on social media. The meeting was chaired by Additional Superintendent of Police (Prevention of Atrocities against Women) Praveen Jain. Priority was given to taking appropriate and timely action against those spreading fake news on social media. Moreover, an action plan was made to do so.
Fake news will be monitored by media cell officials
Police and media cell officials will take action through mutual coordination. Moreover, they will take action against videos, news and messages influencing elections and model codes of conduct on social media. The concerned officers and employees will remain alert for 24 hours. Furthermore, they will continuously monitor Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Twitter, YouTube and other social sites.
ASP Jain said in the meeting
In the meeting, ASP Jain stated that the police department will take immediate legal action if any social media posts fall under the category of crime. The police department has started monitoring social media by activating intelligence officers at every police station level. At the same time, this is also being continuously monitored at the level of officials. Intelligence, cyber cell etc. have also been activated.
He stated that both the media cell and the police team would investigate the suspicious and misleading information being circulated on social media. Moreover, it will be checked through fact checks to find out the reality. Furthermore, they will work to provide correct and genuine information to the general public. If any type of post is found to be a crime, immediate effective action will be taken against the person concerned.
In the meeting, Public Relations Officer Devendra Pratap Singh said that the Election Department has formed a media cell. This cell is to monitor print, electronic and social media and is constantly keeping an eye on them. According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Election Commission regarding social media, fake news, hate speech and misleading posts are being continuously monitored.

In the meeting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Pooja Nagar, Assistant Public Relations Officer Mohan Lal, ACP Sonu Kumar Meena of DoIT, co-in-charge officers Pradyumna Gautam and Chandraprakash Nagar, Police Control Room in-charge Nirmala Vaishnav, Laxman Choudhary of Cyber Police Station, Jagdish Sharma of District Cyber Cell, Intelligence K Satyaprakash, SI Vijay Singh and Ramesh Chandra, ASI Badrilal, Rajendra Malav, Digvijay Singh and other officers of media cell and police department were present.
