New British PM Keir Starmer addressed the UK on Friday evening from 10 Downing Street, also the British PM’s official residence. Starmer made it clear that the work of change would begin now. After assuming charge as PM, Starmer has also started work on appointing his administration. Starmer also spoke to his fellow leaders around the world.
Keir Starmer defeated Rishi Sunak
Elections for the next Prime Minister were held in the UK on 4 July. People voted enthusiastically. The race for the PM post was between Rishi Sunak of the Conservative Party and Keir Starmer of the Labor Party. With the victory in the election, Starmer has become the new British PM. Rishi Sunak has accepted the defeat of his party in the elections. Moreover, Rishi Sunak is the son-in-law of Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murthy, founders of Indian giant Infosys.
The anti-incumbency wave in Britain wiped out the ruling Conservative Party. Ending the wait of 14 years, the Labor Party came back to power. The Labor Party has registered a landslide victory in the British elections since 2005. Furthermore, Labor Party’s Keir Starmer has been appointed Prime Minister. Newly appointed Prime Minister Starmer gave a sharp statement in the victory rally that finally a burden has been removed from the shoulders of this great country.

Indian PM Narendra Modi spoke on the phone with the new British PM Keir Starmer. Along with congratulating Starmer on his victory, PM Modi also discussed the strength of India-UK relations. PM Modi also gave information about this on social media. PM Modi wrote, “I was happy to talk to Keir Starmer. I congratulated him on being elected Prime Minister of Britain. We are committed to deepening our comprehensive strategic partnership and strong economic ties for the progress and prosperity of the people of India and the UK, as well as for global well-being.”
