Bangladesh coup occurred yesterday evening on the 5th of August 2024. Because of the deteriorating situation and the coup in the neighbouring country Bangladesh, the Central Government of India has also become alert.
Bangladesh has been experiencing significant unrest for the last month. Due to the reinstatement of a job quota system favouring the children of independence war veterans. Initially, it was cancelled in 2018 after large protests. The system was reinstated in June 2024. After the Supreme Court increased the quota from 5% to 30%. This sparked widespread opposition and violence.
The unrest has resulted in over 500 deaths and thousands of injuries. Authorities have imposed nationwide curfews, internet blackouts, and bans on public gatherings to control the situation. Protests have been concentrated in major urban areas like Dhaka, Chattogram, and Rangpur, often involving violent clashes with police.
Sheikh Hasina Resigned
The protesters started demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On this, Sheikh Hasina’s government announced a curfew in Bangladesh till July 20. Due to this, the rioters became more aggressive. In such a situation, the government started arresting and imprisoning the protesters.
After this, the United Nations intervened in this matter and said that the people of Bangladesh should not be tortured. With the support of the UN, the protesters gained more courage and the demonstrations became more intense. They intensified their demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister.
Seeing the situation worsening, Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday evening and left Dhaka and came to India. She resigned and came to India to save her life. Her plane landed at Hindon Air Base of the Air Force in Ghaziabad, UP at 5.30 pm on Monday. Here she was received by the country’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Information has come to light that Sheikh Hasina will take refuge in England after ending her political innings. Sources say that Sheikh Hasina is preparing to go to London. The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has sought asylum from the Government of England.
History of Bangladesh coup
The history of coups in Bangladesh is marked by political instability and military interventions since its independence in 1971. Here is an overview of the major coups and attempted coups in the country’s history:
Bangladesh coup in 1975
1August 15, 1975, Coup: The first major Bangladesh coup occurred on August 15, 1975. At that time a group of junior army officers assassinated the country’s founding leader, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, along with most of his family members. This coup led to the installation of Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad as the president. This event profoundly affected the nation’s political landscape and set a precedent for future military interventions.
2November 3, 1975 Jail Killing: Following the August coup, four senior Awami League leaders, who had been arrested, were murdered in Dhaka Central Jail. This was part of a conspiracy to consolidate power among the new rulers.
3 November 7, 1975 Coup: Known as the “Sipahi-Janata Biplob” (Soldiers and People’s Revolution), this coup saw the overthrow of Mushtaq Ahmad by a counter-coup led by Brigadier Khaled Mosharraf. However, within days, Khaled Mosharraf was killed. Afterwards, the army chief, Major General Ziaur Rahman, took control, becoming the de facto leader of Bangladesh.
1981 Coup Attempt
May 30, 1981 Assassination of Ziaur Rahman: President Ziaur Rahman was assassinated in Chittagong by a group of army officers led by Major General Manzoor. The coup attempt failed, and Vice President Justice Abdus Sattar took over as acting president. The political environment remained volatile, with numerous uprisings and attempted coups continuing in the background.
1982 Coup
March 24, 1982: Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Hussain Muhammad Ershad led a bloodless coup, overthrowing the elected president Abdus Sattar. Ershad declared martial law and assumed the presidency, ruling Bangladesh for almost nine years until he was forced to resign in December 1990 due to mass protests and a popular uprising.
Recent Political Instability in Bangladesh due to coup
While there have been no successful coups in recent years, Bangladesh has experienced significant political turmoil, often involving violent protests, hartals (strikes), and confrontations between political parties. The military remains an influential force, with occasional rumours of coups, although none have materialized since Ershad’s ousting.
Yesterday, Bangladesh Army Chief Wakar-uz-Zaman also gave an ultimatum to Sheikh Hasina to resign from the post of PM and leave the country. In such a situation, Sheikh Hasina has resigned from the post of PM and has left the country with her sister Sheikh Rehana and come to India. Minutes after she left Dhaka, protesters attacked her residence and engaged in vandalism. Protesters stormed the gates of the Gono Bhaban (PM’s residence) and entered the premises around 3:00 pm. They started looting the expensive items as well as common things in the PM house.
Protestors in PM House
In such a situation, Bangladesh will now be ruled by the army under the leadership of Waqar-uz-Zaman. As per the media report, Army Chief is going to form the Interim government within 24 to 48 hours. He has called on the public to maintain faith in the military and to remain peaceful. Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, the head of the navy and air force, and top leaders of several opposition parties, including the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami party, attended the president’s meeting.
According to reports, it was alleged that the Opposition BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) conspired with Pakistan’s ISI to foment unrest and overthrow Hasina, who is considered to be pro-India, while Zia is seen as pro-Pakistan. Bangladesh’s President Mohammed Shahabuddin has ordered the release of jailed former Prime Minister and key opposition leader Khaleda Zia.
India alert after rebellion in Bangladesh
Given the deteriorating situation and the coup in the neighbouring country Bangladesh, the Central Government has also become alert. The government has issued a special warning for the northeastern states along the border with Bangladesh.
Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was welcomed by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior Air Force officials on her arrival at Hindon Air Force Station in Uttar Pradesh. During this, there was a long conversation between Hasina and Doval.
PM Modi chairs key meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) over Bangladesh unrest. Foreign Minister Jaishankar, NSA Doval and senior ministers attended this meeting. The Indian government is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation in Bangladesh.
Foreign Minister Jaishanker informed about the Bangladesh coup in the Rajya Sabha. He further said that they are closely monitoring the situation. Moreover, the government is in contact with Bangladesh Army officials and our diplomates. The High Commission in Dhaka and Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet are there and in contact with Indian nationals.
On the other hand, because of the incident in Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) has increased vigil on the 4096 km long India-Bangladesh Border. BSF has issued a high alert for all its units. Meanwhile, BSF Acting Director General (DG) Daljit Singh Chaudhary and other senior commanders have reached Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, to review the security situation.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has also released a video saying that we have imposed prohibitory orders on the border from Monday night.
Chief Minister of Bengal Mamta Banerjee agreed to follow the decision by the central government in this regard. Moreover, she requested with hand fold to the leaders not to give controversial statements about the Bangladesh coup.

High-security number plate to apply till the 10th of August. The department has extended the last date to apply for a high-security number plate. To drive old vehicles on the road in Rajasthan, vehicle owners must install high-security number plates.
The Transport Department has extended the date of application. Applications for high-security number plate installation in vehicles can now be made until August 10. From August 11, action will be taken against vehicles without a high-security number plate.
Earlier, the Transport Department had given such drivers the last chance till July 31. The department has extended the application date for the second time. The Transport Department started the application process for online number plates in December 2023, which had to be applied by June 30. After this, the department extended the time till 31st July.
But still, only more than 7 lakh vehicles have number plates. In such a situation, the date has been extended by 10 more days.
Easier to monitor
The Transport Department believes that the installation of a high-security number plate will make it easier to develop an intelligent transport system. With this, monitoring through e-challan, pollution, insurance and GPS systems will be done easily.
Furthermore, tracing suspicious vehicles will also become easier. Apart from this, it will also provide the facility to trace locations in real time. A high-security number plate is laser-coated. Moreover, its safe lock cannot be opened. It can be removed only after breaking. In such a situation, if the vehicle is stolen and the thief drives or sells the vehicle with fake license plates, he will be caught.
What is a high-security number plate?
A high-security number plate (HSRP) is a vehicle registration plate that is designed to offer enhanced security features. Thus reducing the risk of car theft and fraud. These plates are often mandated by governments in various countries to ensure better vehicle identification and to streamline the registration process. Here are some key features of high-security number plates:
Reflective Sheeting: HSRPs are made using reflective sheeting that improves visibility in low-light conditions and during the night.
Unique Laser Code: Each plate has a unique laser-engraved code that is difficult to tamper with or replicate, making it easier to trace and identify vehicles.
Hologram: A chromium-based hologram is embedded into the plate to prevent counterfeiting and ensure authenticity.
Hot Stamping: The registration number and letters are hot-stamped into the plate to prevent easy removal or tampering.
Snap Lock: These plates often come with a snap-lock mechanism. Thus making it difficult to remove the plate without breaking it, thereby deterring theft.
Centralized Record: Information about the plate and the vehicle is stored in a centralized database. Which can be accessed by law enforcement agencies for verification and tracking purposes.
The adoption of a high-security number plate can vary by region. Some countries make it mandatory for all vehicles, while others may require it only for new registrations. In Rajasthan, it is been made compulsory to install till the 10th of August 2024.

Maya OS may now be installed on every computer in India to prevent CrowdStrike and other problems that may arise in future. Cyber experts in the country say that the way Crowdstrike created an outcry in the entire world. Due to this, preparations have started in India to bring the entire industry on their self-made operating system.
What is Maya OS?
Maya OS is an operating system developed specifically for the Indian Defence Ministry. It was implemented in August 2023 and is based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution, which is known for its security features. Here’s a quick rundown of Maya OS:
Developed by: Indian government agencies including DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) and NIC (National Informatics Centre)
Based on: Ubuntu Linux
Focus: Security and Reliability
Key features:
Designed to be more resistant to cyberattacks compared to Windows or macOS
Uses full disk encryption, intrusion detection and sandboxing for enhanced security
Rigorously tested for stability
Locally developed, reducing dependence on foreign software
Maya OS is currently being used by the Indian Defence Ministry and is planned for adoption by the Army, Navy and Air Force. The user interface is designed to be similar to Windows, making it easier for users to switch over.
Why Maya OS is under consideration
Two days ago, due to a Microsoft Cloud outage, almost 70% of the internet-based systems of the world came to a complete standstill. This happened due to a software update from Microsoft. Due to this crowd strike there was a loss of hundreds of billions of dollars in the entire world. Moreover, everything was stopped in a large part of the entire world. According to IT and cyber experts, 70% of the operating systems in the modern world are still from Microsoft.
In such a situation, the discussion has now started on whether different countries of the world will launch their operating systems. Indigenous operating system Maya OS has already been launched in India. Although it has not yet become fully popular among the people. According to experts, this is the right time to launch our operating system.
Cyber experts opinion
Cyber experts in the country say that the way Crowdstrike created an outcry in the entire world. Due to this, preparations have started in India to bring the entire industry on their self-made operating system.
Himanshu Sharma, a software engineer working in New York, America, says that the maximum dependence in the whole world is still on Microsoft’s operating system. Almost 70% of the computers in the world still have Microsoft operating systems. Whereas about 20% use the iOS or Mac operating system. Whereas countries like China and Russia mostly use their self-made operating systems. Himanshu says that different countries of the world are still completely dependent on the American operating system. If this dependency is switched to indigenous operating systems, a major “digital tsunami” like the Crowdstrike that happened on July 19 can be avoided.
Software engineer and cyber expert Deenbandhu Verma says that India has its own “Maya” operating software. He says that this is a software which has been designed with many types of security layers. It has antimalware and antivirus software, which also creates a strong security layer between netizens and the internet. In such a situation, the possibility of any kind of breach in this operating system or any major cloud outage becomes equal to zero. Cyber experts suggest replacing Microsoft with Maya OS at regular intervals in our country. Following the recent crowd strike incident it would be a significant step towards enhancing cybersecurity in the future.
Preparation to launch Maya OS
Now it is estimated that after the “digital tsunami” that occurred on July 19, readiness will be shown to advance its indigenous operating system, Maya. If officials associated with the Central Government are to be believed, discussions have taken place on a large scale in this direction. It is believed that if everything progresses in an orderly manner, it will be taken forward in the coming days. Besides, there is also talk of starting work on a large scale towards developing some other operating systems.
Cyber expert Devesh Dhawan says that the only country that has survived completely in this entire devastation is Russia. Dhawan says that due to various restrictions, neither Russians can use Microsoft cloud services nor can Russian commercial and intelligence equipment be accessed through American operating systems. Furthermore, in such circumstances, Russia saved itself from such a big digital tsunami by developing its operating system. Moreover, Devesh Dhawan believes that it can create bad situations like an epidemic of major cyber attacks in the coming days. Therefore, it is better that we have to strengthen our systems from now on to avoid any such major cyber attack.
Ashish Singh, a cyber expert working in a multinational company in Bengaluru, says that there is a need to replace traditional operating systems. Maya OS is the best option. He says that Maya OS has not yet been taken forward that much. He believes that there may be some technical level problems in the initial phase. But when it is started in a phased manner, it will be able to replace the Microsoft operating system.
India has already Indigenous operating systems
We already have the operating system ready. There is only a need to implement it rapidly and systematically in the country. Cyber expert Anand Sachan says that India not only has the Maya OS. But earlier BOSS (Bharat Operating System Solution) was also developed. This operating system developed in 2021 was implemented in the initial phase, but then it could not be taken forward. But launched with the new Maya OS in mid-2023. According to cyber experts, its results have also been positive.
Devesh Dhawan states that if the central government takes this matter seriously, any future cyber attacks can be avoided. He says that not only did Russia save itself from this big attack on July 19, but China also saved its existing systems by using its operating system. He believes that after this incident, all those capable countries will move forward. They will implement their operating systems. Countries will implement those that have their operating systems. Those countries that are on the verge of developing their systems may consider.
Kota Junction will soon be a stoppage for the Vande Bharat train as the Vande Bharat from Udaipur to Agra will make a stop here. From September 1, the Udaipur-Jaipur-Udaipur Vande Bharat train will now come to Jaipur only three days a week. The reason is that now it will be operated between Udaipur and Agra Fort for the remaining three days. The reason for reducing days is said to be less passenger load between Udaipur and Jaipur.
Actually, in September last year, Railways gifted the third Vande Bharat train to Rajasthan between Udaipur and Jaipur, but the passenger load in it was less. Hence, Vande Bharat will run only three days on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from the 1st of September. Now it is operating six days a week between Jaipur and Udaipur.
When will Vande Bharat stop at Kota Junction?
Vande Bharat will start operating from the 1st of September between Udaipur and Agra Fort. Vande Bharat will be operated from Udaipur to Agra Fort via Rana Pratapnagar, Mavli Junction, Chanderiya, Kota Junction, Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur City, Bayana for three days on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
According to the officials, the route and timetable of this train have been decided. Soon the fare list will also be released and ticket booking will also be started. Approximately it will be around 10 Am towards Agra and in between 7-8 Pm towards Udaipur.
Proposed Kota – Delhi Vande Bharat train
