Golden Globe Nominations 2024 are Surprising
The 81st Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced on Monday, 11th December 2023. The Globe Globe Awards are recognizing films and television shows released in 2023. “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” led the pack with nine and eight nominations respectively.

The Golden Globe Awards will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles on 7th January 2024. Jerrod Carmichael will host the ceremony. Certainly, it will be interesting to see who takes home the golden trophies!

The Golden Globe Nominations were announced by Helen Hoehne, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA). This organization votes on the Golden Globe Awards.

The HFPA has been under fire in recent years for its lack of diversity and ethical lapses. However, the organization has made changes to address these issues.

The nominees and winners are chosen by a voting body of 300 members from 75 countries.

Poor Things:

Poor Things is a 2023 black comedy fantasy film. It’s based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray. The film was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara. It stars Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael.

Yorgos Lanthimos’s dark comedy about a woman who is reincarnated with the brain of a baby also garnered seven nominations. Moreover, it includes Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical, Best Actress for Emma Stone, and Best Original Screenplay.

Golden Globe Nominations for Television Shows

“Succession” dominated the television categories with nine nominations, including one for Best Drama Series. Other top contenders include “The Bear,” “Only Murders in the Building,” “The Crown,” and “The Last of Us.” Moreover, in the acting categories, Zendaya, Bill Hader, Steve Martin, Martin Freeman, and Amanda Seyfried were among the nominees.

Succession:

The final season of HBO’s hit drama about a dysfunctional media family dominated the television nominations with nine nods. Further, it includes Best Drama Series, Best Actor for Jeremy Strong, and Best Supporting Actress for Sarah Snook.

The Bear:

FX’s gritty comedy about a young chef struggling to run his family’s Chicago sandwich shop received five nominations. Further, it includes Best Comedy Series, Best Actor for Jeremy Allen White, and Best Supporting Actress for Ayo Edebiri.

Only Murders in the Building:

Hulu’s charming mystery-comedy about three New York City neighbours who investigate a death in their building also scored five nominations, including Best Comedy Series, Best Actress for Selena Gomez, and Best Supporting Actor for Steve Martin.

2 Best stand-up comedian on television:

Supreme Court of India Supreme Verdict on Article 370

The five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court of India has given its supreme verdict. This verdict was on the petitions challenging the removal of Article 370. CJI Chandrachud said that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Furthermore, he said that it is not appropriate to question every decision taken by the central government. Moreover, the decision to remove Article 370 taken by the President is valid.

The CJI said that every decision taken by the Center on behalf of the state is not subject to challenge. This will create anarchy and uncertainty and the administration of the state will come to a standstill.

Five judges bench of the Supreme Court of India had given the verdict. The bench includes Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant.

Supreme Court Verdict on Article 370

In the Article 370 case, the Supreme Court said that:-

Article 370 was for constitutional integration with the Union of Jammu and Kashmir. And it was not meant for disintegration. Moreover, the President can declare that Article 370 has ceased to exist.

The CJI said that the recommendation of the Constituent Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir is not binding on the President of India.

The CJI said that we direct that the Election Commission should take steps to conduct elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly by September 30, 2024.

Dhiraj Sahu got trapped for ₹300 crores stored in Cupboards

Dhiraj declared a total of 22 bank accounts in Lohardaga, Sambalpur, Gumla, Bolangir, and Delhi for himself, his wife, and his dependents. A total of Rs 8.59 crore deposited in these bank accounts was reported.

The Congress MP had declared shares in companies and funds worth Rs 31.16 lakh. Similarly, Dhiraj had mentioned deposit insurance of Rs 8 lakh. At that time, the Congress MP had given loans and advances totalling Rs. 75.46 lakhs.

Cars like BMW, Fortuner and Range Rover

According to Dhiraj’s affidavit, he has a total of four cars worth Rs 1.51 crore in his name. Among these, the most expensive car is the BMW KV42 at Rs 87 lakh, the Fortuner at Rs 32 lakh, the Range Rover at Rs 24 lakh and the cheapest car is the Pajero at Rs 8.5 lakh.

Jewellery worth Rs 1.51 crore, including gold coins

The Congress MP had mentioned jewellery worth a total of Rs 1.51 crore in his affidavit. Of these, 20 kg of silver jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh and diamond jewellery worth Rs 26 lakh were declared in his name.

Whereas, 3100 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 94.55 lakh and diamond jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh were mentioned in the name of the wife. Apart from this, information about 25 kg silver worth Rs 10 lakh and gold coin worth Rs 5.4 lakh was given in the name of a dependent.

Along with this, Rs 7.38 crore was mentioned in the affidavit as claim and interest. In this way, Dhiraj Sahu had claimed to have movable assets worth Rs 20.41 crore.

Dhiraj Sahu have houses in three states

Dhiraj Sahu had claimed to have immovable assets worth a total of Rs 14.85 crore. In his affidavit, the MP mentioned that there was agricultural land in 5 places and non-agricultural land in 1 place.

Along with this, he provided information about four residential houses and flats in his and his wife’s name in Lohardaga, Kolkata, Ranchi, and Delhi. At the same time, he claimed to have assets worth Rs 2.83 crore in the name of another dependent.

Liabilities

In his affidavit, the Congress leader had given information about liabilities of Rs 2.36 crore.

Mahua Moitra expelled from Parliament

Mahua Moitra was expelled from the membership of Lok Sabha on Friday in the case of “Cash for Query”. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi presented the motion for expulsion. The House passed it by voice vote.

Before that, the report by the Ethics Committee recommended the expulsion of Mahua. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said this House accepts the report of the committee. In this report the conduct of MP Mahua Moitra has been described as unethical, immoral and indecent as an MP. Therefore it is not appropriate for her to remain an MP. After the decision, Mahua said that the Ethics Committee had no power to expel. This is the beginning of the end of the Modi Government.

What is the Ethics Committee and how does it work?

On March 4, 1997, the then Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman KR Narayanan constituted the Ethics Committee of the Upper House to keep an eye on the ethical conduct of MPs. In 2000, the then Lok Sabha Speaker GMC Balayogi constituted an ad-hoc Ethics Committee for the Lok Sabha, which became a permanent part of the House in 2015.

It consists of 15 members from different parties. Presently BJP MP from Kaushambi Vinod Kumar Sonkar is its president. Currently, there are 7 MPs from the BJP and four from Congress, while Shiv Sena, JDU, CPIM and BSP have one MP each.

Any person can complain against an MP, but there must be evidence of unethical conduct. An affidavit also has to be submitted. If a Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha member himself makes a complaint then there is no need for an affidavit. The complaint will go through the Lok Sabha MP.

The committee first conducts a preliminary investigation. If there is no case at first sight in the opinion of the Committee, it may recommend deletion of the case. For this, the committee chairman informs the speaker. If the committee finds a case to investigate after a preliminary inquiry, it proceeds with an investigation. After this, the committee sends its recommendation to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

If in the investigation of the Ethics Committee, any member is found guilty of ethical misconduct or violation of the code of conduct, then there is a provision for punitive action under Rule 297. Under which condemnation, censure, suspension and expulsion from the House for a fixed period are included.

11 MPs lost their membership 18 years ago in “Cash for Query”

In 2005, 10 Lok Sabha and one Rajya Sabha MP lost their membership in a case of asking questions for taking money. The allegations in the Lok Sabha were investigated by a special committee led by Congress MP PK Bansal, while the Ethics Committee in the Rajya Sabha investigated the complaint.

The case against Mahua Moitra was reported on November 9

Earlier, the Ethics Committee headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, in its meeting on November 9, had accepted the report recommending the expulsion of Mahua Moitra from the Lok Sabha.

This shows how Adani is important to you and to what extent you will harass a woman MP. She further said that the Ethics Committee has no power to expel. This is the beginning of your end.
