Aviation Minister Shri Kinjrapu Rammohan Naidu has announced the implementation of a uniform IGST rate of 5% on all aircraft and aircraft engine parts. This will be effective from today,15th July 2024. This decision represents a major milestone for the domestic Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry. It intends to establish India as a global aviation hub.
Commenting on this development, Shri Naidu said, “The introduction of a uniform 5% IGST rate on MRO items is a major boost for the aviation sector.” Previously, the varied GST rates of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% on aircraft components created challenges. The varied taxes include an inverted duty structure and GST accumulation in MRO accounts. This new policy removes inequalities, simplifies the tax system, and promotes growth in the MRO industry.
The Union Minister emphasized Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership in making the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative possible. PM’s support has been crucial in driving forward the policy to transform India into a leading aviation hub.
The Union Minister praised the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Finance, and other stakeholders for their diligent work. This helped in achieving the policy change recommended by the GST Council during its 53rd meeting on June 22, 2024. The new uniform 5% IGST rate is designed to lower operational costs, address tax credit issues, and attract investment.

Proposal to replace DGCA with CAA

According to media reports, the central government is now preparing to put the privatization program on hold. But now the government has indicated to withdraw from this scheme.

As per the report from government sources, the government is working on a plan to improve the profits of more than 200 government companies. According to sources, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may announce a new scheme in the general budget to be presented on July 23. This includes selling a large portion of unused land held by companies and monetization of other assets.
Its objective is to raise $24 billion i.e. about Rs 2 lakh crore in the current financial year 2024-24. Moreover, this amount will be re-invested in PSU. Under the new scheme, instead of short-term targets, 5-year performance and production targets can be set for each government company. An official said the government is now shifting its focus from indiscriminate asset sales to enhancing the intrinsic value of PSU.
According to the plan announced in the year 2021, two banks, an insurance company and a PSU in the steel, energy and pharmaceutical sectors were to be sold. Also, loss-making companies were to be closed. However, the government was successful in selling only debt-ridden Air India to the Tata Group. Now the central government also wants to start a succession plan in its majority-owned companies. Besides, there is also a proposal to provide training to 2.30 lakh managers. When Ramkali asked accused Kailash why her brother had not returned after a week. She was concerned about his well-being. Moreover, she did not get any satisfactory answer to this from Kailash. Hence she filed a case against Kailash.
Enormous sums of money are being given to individuals who choose to convert.
The Additional Advocate General appearing on behalf of the State argued that by organizing such meetings, a large number of people are being converted to Christianity and huge amounts of money are being provided to them. Furthermore, he also cited various statements of witnesses before the Court. These witnesses stated that the accused Kailash was taking people from the village to convert them to Christianity. Moreover, for this work, they were being paid huge amounts of money.
Plead by the accused’s lawyer in Allahabad High Court
The accused’s lawyer argued before the court that the complainant’s brother Ramphal had not converted, nor he is a Christian. He had attended a Christian religion and welfare event along with several other individuals. The lawyer further said that during the investigation, the police had recorded statements of various persons, which cannot be relied upon at this stage given that accused Kailash has no role to play. Sonu Pastor was the one who was holding such a meeting and he has already been released on bail.
Serious allegations on accused
Justice Rohit Ranjan Aggarwal heard the counsel for the parties involved in the case and perused the material on record. After this, Justice Rohit said in his decision that Article 25 of the Constitution of India provides for freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion. But it does not provide for conversion from one religion to another. The judgment said that the word ‘propaganda’ means to promote. But it does not mean converting a person from his religion to another religion.
In this case, the informant has made serious allegations against the accused. The allegation is that his brother was taken away from the village to participate in the welfare meeting organized in Delhi. Moreover, along with him, many people of the village were also taken there. They were converted into Christians.
Making a serious comment on the matter, the court said that if this process is allowed to continue, the majority population of this country will one day become a minority. Along with this, it was said that such religious gatherings should be stopped immediately where religious conversion is taking place. Moreover, such gatherings should be stopped where the citizens of India are being converted.
Justice Rohit said that this is against the constitutional mandate of Article 25 of the Indian Constitution. It does not provide activities for religious conversion. But only for freedom of conscience and free profession, practice and propagation of religion.
Allahabad High Court is worried about Illegal conversion activities taking place on a large scale
The court stated that it has noticed several cases of illegal conversion of people from other castes. The caste includes Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribal groups. Moreover, economically poor persons are converted to Christianity. Furthermore, the conversion is taking place on a large scale in Uttar Pradesh.
The court said that it has prima facie found that the accused is not entitled to bail. Therefore, the bail plea of the accused involved in this case is rejected.
